Can Fentanyl Causes Allergic Reactions When Diagnosed With Skin Cancer?

Hi.....I believe I may have had a very bad reaction to Fentynal during a skin cancer removal on my forehead. I was put under sedation, but during procedure I became very agitated and had hallucinations of being smothered by a mesh net by the staff. They had to bring me up and I ended up hearing conversations and feeling the cutting. Could I be allergic to Fentynal? I am putting that on my medical forms. I am having knee replacement surgery in February. Should they not use it?

Fentanyl is a very potent opioid. It is very good at pain relief but also has significant side-effects that many people are unable to tolerate. It is entirely possible that you experienced the side-effects of fentanyl. It does not sound like an allergy, however, which is an important note to make. People who are intolerant of certain opioid drugs will tolerate others well. As this class of drug is very useful to patients, then stating an allergy will render any opioid unusable. An intolerable side-effect profile of fentanyl may mean that you will respond well to other similar drugs and may derive significant benefits from them. If you undergo any further hospital intervention, please discuss the effects that you suspect may have been due to the fentanyl.
