Hi Dr, I just started using Fertomid today. it was prescribed by my dr because I have been trying to conceive for 3yrs now. I have 2 girls and the last is almost 4. I have done HSG (tube is clear) and abdominal myomectomy for fibroid. I noticed this evening that I have pelvic pain and it is not because of my period. my period just ended today day 5. I can only link it to the fertomid. 3 questions 1. why the pains 2. if its nothing to worry, when do I have relations with my husband to have a baby boy and 3. do I seem like an appropriate candidate for fertomid to be successful. thanks Mubo

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your query. Fertomid is a drug stimulating ovulation & is given to patients where ovulation fails ,to cause a condition like PCOD & sterility.Your doctor possibly doubts the same in your case, so you were given the pill. Now answers to your queries- 1. The pain in PCOd due to over stretching of ovaries due to collected immature ovum. Your pain is mostly due to that. Fertomid is not known to produce pain as a side effect, 2.It is not really possible/ legally advisible to choose gender of a child before you conceive. Still it is said that earlier the fertilization more chances of having a baby boy. So you should decide your ovulation day by LH surge test & plan sex accordingly.
3. Fertomid should be given after confirming PCOD( done by ovulation study/ normal USG scan of ovaries). In seems you have ovulation problem, that's why you are given Fertomid. In case you are ovulating normally, you do not need the drug. Thanks.
