Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Fluorescein Sodium And Benoxinate Be Used Before Cataract Surgery?
I am having cataract surgery and have to begin drops tomorrow. My doctor has prescribed zymaxid, prolensa and cyclogyl. The pharmacist has given me Fluorescein sodium and benoxinate; cyclopentolate; and atropine sulfate. I do not know which of these drops correspond to each one of the ones the physician prescribed.
It's good that you have checked the medications give by the pharmacist. Actually fluorescein sodium and benoxinate is not prescribed by your ophthalmologist. Ophthalmologist prescribed an antibiotic Zymaxid, an anti-inflammatory agent Prolensa or Bromfenac and Cyclopentolate for eye muscles relaxation.
Fluorescein sodium is used as an anesthetic agent to reduce pain. Please discuss the same with your pharmacist and ask him to give those medications prescribed by your ophthalmologist.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Atropine, Cyclopentolate both are Cyclogyl, Fluorescein not prescribed by the doctor, Benoxinate also is not prescribed, Zymaxid is an antibiotic (Gatifloxacin). Just take which ones are prescribed by the doctor, yours meds are different.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
