Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am in the second day and second pill of furosemide 40mg and have noticed no notable increase in urinating or lessening of swelling in ankles..... don t know if it related or not but have been experiencing dizzy spells since the night after taking the first pill the previous day?
I have read your question fully and understand your concerns.
Furosemide is a diuretic (a water tablet). I understand from your question that you have been given this for reducing the swelling of your feet. One of the side effects of furosemide is dizziness. Further, furosemide can cause a mild decrease of your blood pressure. So, if you are taking any other blood pressure lowering medications at the same time as Furosemide, then you may notice that your blood pressure has fallen quite a bit. Lowering of blood pressure also leads to symptoms of dizziness.
Is it possible for you to get your Blood pressure checked in a few days’ time? If your blood pressure has been adequately controlled on the other blood pressure lowering medications (anti-hypertensive medications), then due to addition of furosemide, the dose of your other anti-hypertensive medication would need to be reduced. In the meanwhile, until you get to see your doctor, you could take one/two of your other anti-hypertensives at night time and take Furosemide at morning, so that your BP would not get too low in the morning/afternoon (if you are taking all your medicines in the morning).
I hope this answer has helped you.
Thank you Regards Dr Sunita Sayammagaru
