Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can GERD Cause Head Congestion, Sore Throat And Difficulty In Breathing?
I have a continual sore throat, laryngitis, drip in the back of my throat. I have bad allergies and asthma too and am often congested. I was in the hospital earlier with diverticulitis with an abcess and minor bowel perforations and was treated with flagyl and cipro numerous times which left my intestinal tract a mess. Now I don t know if what I m experiencing is Gerd, allergies, or a combination of things. Can Gerd cause head congestion , sore throat, and difficulty with breathing?
I think GERD may be a cause of your symptoms. They can cause you cough, congestion, laryngitis, sore throat. It can't cause you allergic rhinitis or sinusitis and this is another issue. You may need to use antacids such Pepto-Bismol or maalox for heartburn, use omeprazole to stop acid secretions from your stomach, sleep elevating head with pillows, don't eat latter than 7 pm.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
