Can GERD Cause Severe Chest Pain?

I am a 55 year old male. I have been getting chest pains over my heart that hurt really bad. I have had stress tests which came out fine, met with a Pulmonary Specialist who said thing were fine so don t know where to turn. Could GERD be causing my chest pain. It feels like the left side of my sternum ( looking straight ahead) like someone is holding a blunt object against my chest with pressure.

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Yes, GERD can be a reason of your symptoms. There is a simple test which you can perform. Drink mineral water when the pain will be present. If its acid related, the pain should get better for a while.
GERD can also give nausea which neither heart or lungs do not give.
I suggest you to improve your diet as a first step. Please avoid any fatty foods, spicy foods, fried foods, coffee, chocolate, orange juices.
If this wont help, consult gastrologist. You should get PPIs (proton pump inhibitors) prescription.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
