Can Gabapentin Be Taken Along With Hydromorphone For Severe Pain In Leg?

I took a 2mg of hydromorphone last night @ 11:55 pm for severe back and leg pain. I have just finished a 9 day prednisone treatment. The doctor is looking at a diagnosis of radiculitis, spondyloisthesis. The leg pain is still at a scale of 10. I would like to try a 300mg cap of gabapentin tonight. I am also taking xarelto for afib. Do you think is would be safe to try the gabapentin tonight? I am not sleeping more than 60 to 90 minutes becasue of the pain

I can understand your concern. Hydromorphone is an opioid drug and the drug is a good analgesic drug. Gabapentin is a GABA drug and is used in a number of conditions like neuropathic pains, poor sleep, anxiety etc. The drug is safe to use and is free of serious side effects.

As your pain is not decreasing with Hydromorphone and still the symptoms are persisting so in my opinion you can take Gabapentin. No need to worry, both these drugs have no serious drug interactions. You are also on Xarelto and this drug will also not have any interactions with Gabapentin. Gabapentin will help to relieve the pain and will result in good sleep also. So if you have prescription of the drug you can try it. Please don't forget to call your doctor before making any change in prescription.
