Can Gabapentin Be Used To Replace Klonopin?

Can Gabapentin be used to replace Klonopin? I have been on the Klonopin the past 25 years, and my doctor is ordering me to stop taking the Klonopin, and I cannot get through to my doctor to ask her why....One of my friends suggested that this might be a suitable replacement....Thank you for your time.

Hi,
You have been using klonopin (clonazepam) for a very long period. The information regarding the indication fro klonopin use is missing. Let me explain when gabapentin can replace klonopin.
If you were taking klonopin for insomnia or seizure maintenance, then gabapentin can be an alternative
If you were taking it for anxiety attacks, then gabapentin might not be considered as an alternative
As you have been taking klonopin for a very long period, the dose has to be tapered rather than stopping abruptly. Please consider any change or stopping the drug only in consultation with your doctor. You can discuss the above points with your doctor. Hope the above information helps you.
