Can Galvusmet Be Taken In Place Of Janumet?

Hi Doctor I was in Dubai and was taking Jaumet 50/500 and my blood sugar was well controlled. I moved to Saudi Arabia and consulted a doctor who prescribed Janumet 50/800 as 50/500 was not available in saudia. The pharmacy gave me Galvusmet 50/850 because Janumet was not available and he said that both are same. I have not yet started the medicine as I am not sure if these two medicines are really same. I read abourt some side effects of vildagliptin. Please advice Regards Abdul Malik

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear welcome to HealthcareMagic
Regarding your prescription of javumet in place of Galvumet I am suggesting strongly that you can take it since both of this drugs are relatively thesame the risk and benefit of both of them do not vary and serve the purpose of reducing blood sugar in a type 2 diabetes

Concerning the side effects of vildagliptin (Galvumet) they may be present depending on the patient and they include headache nasopharyngitis(inflammation of the nasopharynx) cough constipation dizziness and sweating

I hope this helps Regards
