Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My doctor recently prescribed me Minastrin 24 Fe for a heavy menstrual cycle and said it could not be used as a contraceptive. Recently I switched birth controls (because Minastrin was not covered by our insurance), and was given Gildess Fe 1-20. Can this be used as a contraceptive or should it just be used to regulate the menstrual cycle?
The Gildess FE is a non hormone product used to regulate menses periods for a short duration of action and not that efficacious as oral contraceptive pills so far as pregnancy prevention is concerned. The combined oral contraceptive pills contains two active hormones and work at highest efficacy for the pregnancy prevention against Gildess FE 21.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
