Can Glutathione Powder Be Taken While Suffering From Colon Cancer?
My father has colon cancer with metastatic liver. One year and a half ,he refuses surgery because he is in good condition withhout problems ,pains. He is living normally everyday life. He is 76 years old.Four mounts ago, he started oral hemo therapy with capecitabine pills. His GGT level went up to 5 times of higher normal rate.I want to know is there any benefith of takeing glutathione powder for short time to normalize GGT. AST, ALT are normal. Thanks!
Capecitabine is reported to cause elevated bilirubin levels. Though there are no reports of elevation in GGT, we can't rule it out. Another factor to be considered in the elevation of GGT is liver dysfunction due to metastasis. In my opinion, this rise is GGT can't solely be attributed to capecitabine. Regarding glutathione, there is no harm in using it as it is given to reverse the toxic effects of chemotherapy. Studies that prove the efficacy of glutathione in reducing GGT levels are inadequate. Anyway, before using glutathione, please inform the treating physician.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
