Stomach is the first major organ that helps in breakdown of the food we eat and initiates digestion of the food particles. This is done by acid secreted in the stomach. The amount of acid secretion depends on the type of food eat. High fat and oily food leads to high acid secretion to promote digestion. The stomach is protected from harmful chemical by the mucous layer which lines the organ inside.
Gastritis is the condition in which the layers of the stomach get inflamed following exposure to harmful chemicals due damage to the protective mucous layer of the stomach. Irregular diet schedule also damages the mucous layer by the secreting acid which secretes the chemicals on hunger. To protect the stomach from acid injury, we should control the amount of acid secretion or neutralizes the excess acid in the stomach.
Proton pump inhibitors and Histamine receptor blockers are the drugs which decreases the acid secretion in the stomach. Antacids are the agents that neutralizes the excess acid secreted for digestion. Management of the condition depends on the level of the damage to the stomach and intestinal layers. Visit the gastroenterologist for further management.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
