Can HIV Be Contracted Through Protected Intercourse?
Hi, I am from India. I had a protected sex and i am scaring about getting HIV. After possible exposure of 97th day i got hiv 1 and 2 antibody test(ECLA method), it came non-reactive. Is it conclusive or do i need to get another test after six months as i am still worrying.
HIV is transmitted by: 1. unprotected sexual intercourse with HIV infected person 2. infected mother to fetus/baby 3. through blood transfusion 4. sharing infected needle HIV screening is done by ELISA test and confirmation is done by Western blot test. HIV test reactivity depends upon development of antibodies against HIV. Sometime it develops early, but sometimes it takes time to develop. Post exposure testing is done initially and at six weeks, three months, and six months. After six months, if it still comes non – reactive then you will be declared HIV negative. Don’t worry. Modern HIV test is very accurate. A single screening test is correct more than 99% of the time. But be careful in future because condom does not provided 100% protection from HIV. Thanks
