Can HSV Infection Be Contracted Through Unprotected Sex?

I had unprotected sex 2 weeks ago. Almost immediately thereafter I had 2 sores appear on my penis. Not knowing what they were, and this person not being my married partner, I tried topical applications first. They showed no help so finally went to a doctor yesterday. He took cultures and I'm awaiting the results. Is it possible I had the HSV in a dormant state that only became active with that sexual encounter, or is it more likely that she has HSV and gave it to me so that the sores would appear in less than 24 hours?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain in case if you were not previously infected with HSV there is no possibility that you have got infected with the immediate sexual partner as herpes causing genital sores cannot occur in less than 24 hours of sexual contact..
This is because Herpes Virus has an incubation time of 2 to 12 days, therefore herpetic sores can erupt after 2 days or within 12 days after exposure to virus..
Therefore in case if you were previously infected then only there is a possibility that you have got an outbreak but not with exposure within 24 hours..
You should wait for the investigation reports and once the diagnosis is confirmed then you can proceed with treatment of the cause..
