Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was a psychiatric patient from 1970-1989, I recently asked an endocrinologist if the meds I was taking then could be responsible for my lack of feeling now, specifically being unable to experience the feeling of falling in love .. He responded by asking me about my meds then, and I started naming them off... before I finished he asked me about Haldol, and yes, I remembered taking Haldol years ago.. He explained that this was the drug that blunted my ability to fall in love . I would like more information about this..

Can Haldol Cause Apathy?
Hi, Haloperidol may cause apathy, anhedonia and affective flattening, whereas avolition-apathy and attentional impairment presented no changes. But these effects are more in old age people. Many studies have shown that this drug negative effects are more at the age of 50 years. But also check for other possibilities of depression like anemia, hypothyroidism, thrombocytopenia or infection etc. Please consult your psychiatrist he will examine and treat you accordingly. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu, Internal Medicine Specialist
