Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi my mum is 78 and has stents in following cardiac arrest 23 years ago. Thyroid low but on 100mg of thyroxine. Vasculitis but kidney function after 2 years bk to 35 as opposed to 10. Recent back pains necessitated angiogram so stable in hosp waiting decision to stent or bypass. However is on heparin injections but have taken her off her diuretic and her angiotensin drug. Her haemoglibin has dropped to 9.9 from 10.2 so am wondering does heaparin impact on this?
Heparin interferes with blood clotting, which can make it easier for her to bleed, oftentimes somewhere in the GI tract. However, a hemoglobin drop from 10.2 to 9.9 would not be considered very significant, since the test itself has a margin of error within that range, and the hemoglobin fluctuates according to many factors, including hydration status. So I wouldn't be concerned about this drop.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
