Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Hydrocodone Be The Cause For The Elevation In Blood Sugar Level?
My husband just checked his blood sugar. It was 453. I had him wash hands with soap and repeated. It is still the same. I then checked mine ( I'm not diabetic) and it was 72. He is not disoriented. He took a 7.5/500 hydrocodone at 1:00 pm. Can this cause his sugar to skyrocket.
not a bit on its own. And at that dose by itself it is very unlikely to do bad things. In theory a huge stress can cause the sugar to elevate, so a near fatal overdose of narcotics would generally elevate sugars even in a non-diabetic.
Seriously though, whenever a test is inconsistent with observations (not having symptoms), and inconsistent with a timeline (fine a moment ago) and inconsistent with events (nothing happening) then, one might question the test.
