Can Hydrogen Peroxide Be Used For Ear Infection?

Hi Doctor. I just want to ask which medicine I can buy over the counter for my ears. I think because of using cotton buds, my ears had trauma. My right ear now has discharge, sometimes its clear but inside it is like a little bit thicker in color. I feel that my ears is full and sometimes it is very itchy from inside. Is it safe to put hydrogen peroxide and i will just buy antibiotic ear drops?for how long i should use it and how frequent? thank you!

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are having ear infection so you should use hydrogen peroxide to as it is used to clear excessive ear wax only. It should not be used if there s injury to ear drum or any ear infection. You should visit ENT specialist once and get complete otoscopic examination done. You should start treatment after complete examination. For now keep your ear dry and give warm dry compresses on external ear. Avoid touching or pricking ear with any sharp object. Take a proper course of antibiotics in case of ear infection to subside it completely. Avoid excessive use of mobile from right side as it will exaggerate your symptoms.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
