Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Hydroxyzine Be Taken For Allergic Rashes On The Arms And Thighs?
started nystatin swish/swallow today and antifungal cream to vaginal area for post yeast due to antibiotics. I have broken out in a red rash on trunk and inner thigh area, arms and buttock area. I took 50 mg liquid Benadryl . Not really itchy, just red under skin. Can I take hydroxyzine tablet or how long should I wait. I have some on hand. Need ER attention or not.
Both benadryl and hydroxyzine belong to the antihistamines drugs and each of them can be used for the rash and the itchiness. Just use one of them as described on the package and try to not overdose. These may cause you to be a bit sleepy, so be cautious if you are driving.
If you have only the rash but no swollen lips or eyes, and not difficulty breathing you might not need to rush to the ER. Still you will need to let the doctor know of the rash to make sure if it is allergy and how to proceed further especially related to your yeast infection.
I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards,
Antoneta Zotaj General & Family Physician
