Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Male 52 years old, 230lbs, 5'11" Just went to a fitness centre where they took my blood pressure reading at 152/106. They said i had to receive a doctor's letter for me to train under a personal trainer. Two questions: 1. should I start a moderate exercise regimen without first seeing a doctor and 2. how serious is the BP reading. Thanks
Your blood pressure readings are indeed very high and if you are not on any medications to control BP then you must consult a doctor before beginning any exercise program. Your BP must be brought under control before you begin exercise. Considering your age and blood pressure readings, it is best to get a fitness evaluation done by a doctor first before embarking on any exercise program even if it is moderate in intensity. It is always better to be safe than sorry. Hope you will understand the gravity of the situation.
