Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my mother is 90 years old and had dry cough with chest cold .. but flem is not being released when coughs for the last 6 days. can we give her ALMOX 500 ? .. she is not under any medication for the past several months. height 5' 2'' , weight 110 lbs.
I am sorry to hear about your mother and her cough. From your description she has had a dry non productive cough for 6 days. This type of cough suggests a viral infection and not a bacterial infection. ALMOX is an antibiotic fro the treatment of bacterial infections. I would not recommend taking antibiotics for this cough at this time.
I would recommend that she be on guaifenesin to help with suppression of her cough and help with mobilization of phlegm. If she does not respond or if her cough worsens and is associated with fever and chills I recommend she see her doctor.
Hope this answers your question. If you have any further issues please feel free to contact us
