Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son is 4 years old and when he went for his 4 year old check up a few weeks ago, his doctor gave him a Rx for Flonase to take for three months as a preventative. He has had no symptoms of sickness. Now I have heard some unsettling things about long term steroid use in children. My son is not a child who is sick a lot (maybe 5 times during the school year, but not serious sickness) but his doctor wants him on this since he is in 4 year old preschool. He did go to preschool last year so I am not so sure this year will be any different. Should I give this to him daily or just when he has symptoms? I just don't want him to have to depend on a nasal steroid in order to breathe well. I don’t like the idea of my son on a Rx for a long period of time, but I also don’t want to jeopardize his health if he needs it. HELP!!!!
