Hello Dr Do hospitals have right to test HIV status of a doctor before appointing them for work or undergo PG training? I'm doctor and HIV+ve Recently a hospital in ahmedabad where i applied for medical officer job, denied me becoz they found me HIV+ve during pre employment medical check up. Worried about my career. Plz guide me. Thanks
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern... Yes you could go for a HIV test without prescription. It is easily available & is purely confidential. So you could get checked for HIV, however false positive report is less likely. So there are less chances that you would be negative for the HIV test. If you are HIV positive, you should consult your doctor as taking medicines may delay your progression to AIDS. You could live a normal life upto your progression to AIDS As per your career, you could work anywhere. However in a hospital this might be a problem. You could try in other sectors.
Refer to a physician
Hope this helps
