Hello sir My wife is having sugar since 13 years, taking glemisave m1 morning n tenepure20 at night. Presently due to covid she is taking covid tablets that includes steroids, today fasting sugar was 425 so I am worried. Can I increase the dose or we can star insulin till it is controlled? Will it be possible to without insulin once we start? Thanks regards.
Yes, it is because fasting sugar is high with two oral hypoglycemic, You should start Insulin as soon as possible in the dose prescribed by your family physician. High blood sugar level decrease immunity. It is favorable for infection. Further it can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis. Initially, it will be better to get her admitted to decide the dose of insulin. Whether it will be possible to stop insulin or not will depend upon blood sugar level after withdrawing steroids.
