Can I Take Naproxen And Hydrocodone Acetaminophen For Tooth Pain That Still Persists Despite Taking Tramadol?

My husband is in a lot of tooth pain. He went to the dentist today and the dentist couldn’t find anything. He took some Tramadol 2 hours ago and it hasn’t eased the pain. We have some naproxen and hydrocodone acetaminophen, can he take either one? If not what else can we do?

Hello,

Your husband is having tooth pain. Tooth pain is commonly caused due to tooth decay, infected gums, damaged filling, tooth abscess, cavity, tooth fracture, etc. If there in infection, he will have to take a course of antibiotics orally and rinse his mouth and gargle at least 3 times a day with warm salt water or an antibacterial mouth wash. Ibuprofen and Naproxen Sodium are NSAIDs, they should always be taken with a meal/after a meal to avoid gastric irritation.

He can take Naproxen Sodium as it is longer acting and can be taken less frequently, usually only once a day. He can also take acetaminophen, one SOS when needed. It is commonly given when pain is associated with fever. He should gently floss his teeth teeth to dislodge any food particles that may be trapped. He should brush the teeth each time after taking food. He should get an X-ray done to evaluate pathology causing him symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
