Can I Take Additional Pill For Increased Blood Pressure?

I am on Toporol XL 50 and Altace 5 that I take every morning g around 0600. For the past few days my blood pressure has gone up at night. Now it is 161/102 pulse 84 I have a small headache and right eye tender and pressure in nose/sinus. Can I take an additional one of half of one of my blood pressure pills to help get it down? I will be making a doctor appointment but due to ice on the roads it will be a few days.

Hi ! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

If I were your doctor, I would never advise you to increase or decrease the dosage of your medication specially of the blood pressure on your own. Rather I would collect his phone number and consult him on your present condition to alter any medication till you get an appointment with him. However, the process should not be delayed and must be done at the earliest. At the same time I would also do all the preliminary cardiological investigations so that by the time you visited your treating physician, he could have a clear picture of your problem with the help of the reports and physical examination.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in planning your treatment. Thanks for using the health care magic forum for your query on health. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
