Can I Try Taking Post Thyroid Removal Medicines With A Little Food?

I had my thyroid glands removed 3 yrs. ago. I was initially taking 88 mcg, then cut to 75 mcg. then down to 50 mcg. Now I am back to 75 mcg. I've always taken them upon rising and wait 30-60 minutes before eating or drinking anything else. I think I could possibly be allergic to something in them. I take the pill with about 10 oz. of water. A lot of mornings I get a frothy white substance in my esophagus and have to spit. I have a tendency to spit up after eating--a thin watery fluid. Rarely any chunks. Sometimes this lasts for several hours. Antiacids to not help. One of the pills I took for a short while was white and I did not seem to have the problem, but now I am on a lavender one and it is back again. Can I try taking it with a little food? Suggestions?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thyroid medicine is supposed to be taken empty stomach & its efficacy is reduced if you take with food.
If you are not at all able to tolerate side effects (which doesn't appear to be related to thyroid medicine) and if you want to take it with food, you will need to increase its dose (may be 87.5 or 100mcg). Kindly consult your doctor for the same. He can decide for appropiate dose after taking into consideration your weight & other factors.
Regards.
