I have been on cymbalta for a month and a half ... Got a migraine two days ago ... Normally I would take my Imitrex but when I started on the cymbalta the pharmacist said I should not take it with Imitrex so I tried roughing it out ... After awful pain at 3:00am I called the ER and they said not to take it , but call my dr.... After another 6 hours doctor finally called me back and said I could take it but I m a scared... 2 pharmacists and an ER doc said not a good idea ... But what else can I do ? This migraine isn t letting up ... I m on 48 hrs of awful relentless pain :(

Hello!

I read your question carefully and understand your concern. I would recommend to avoid imitrex while taking cymbalta.
These two drugs can interact with each other causing a dangerous condition.
Using Imitrex together with cymbalta can increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called the serotonin syndrome, which may include symptoms such as confusion, hallucination, seizure, extreme changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering or shaking, blurred vision, muscle spasm or stiffness, tremor, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Severe cases may result in coma and even death.

So I recommend you to go to the ER to have a proper treatment consisting in fluids, intravenous painkillers. Intravenous dihydroergotamine would be very helpful in your condition.

Hope to have been helpful!

Greetings! Dr. Aida
