hi i m 36...i have gonorrhea then i started taking inoflox 400 mg twice a day every 12hrs...i didn t visit for a doctor because i feel ashamed...is it safe taking such antibiotic?how long should i take this medicine?because my friend told me that i have to take it for 7 days...please advise ASAP...thank you..
Welcome to HCM and thank you for the query. I understand your concern. A doctor is a professional who does not judge you and you do not have to be ashamed to see him/her. A single dose of 400mg of ofloxacin used to be considered sufficient for gonorrhea. In 2007, the CDC changed their gonorrhea treatment guidelines to remove single-dose fluoroquinolones from the recommended list. Fluoroquinolone-resistant strains have been identified around the world, including in many areas of the U.S. The prevalence of fluoroquinolone-resistant gonorrhea in California went from less than one percent of infections in 1999 to over 20 percent in 2003. It would be much more now. I do not use quinolones in gonorrhea management. The most effective medicine I have found in my practice is a single injection of Ceftriaxone. This is combined with azithromycin to overcome resistance, if any, to a single drug.
