Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
32 year old male. 6'1, 210llbs. Am on Lisinopril and Verapamil for HBP. I also have a TSH of 11. My doctor put me on 75mcg levothyroxine today. I start tomorrow - I read many saying 50mcg is normal to start with - should I actually take 3/4 of the tablet, or exactly a prescribed. I am concerned that it will increase my heart rate and BP which I am being treated for separately.
yes certainly thyroxine can increase heart rate and bp. According to me your tsh is mildly elevated and we don't even start treatment if it is less than 10. I think, I would have started you on 12.5 or 25 ug before breakfast. you discuss this issue with your doctor. Also consider low salt diet and regular exercises.
