Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had taken lisenopril for a few months and then came off it due to severe muscle spasms. I have since had skipped heart beats and wondered if this caused them to happen. I had them often about 10 years ago and had a heart attack in 2006. They went away after I had a stent put in, and stayed away for years. They had been gone until I started on that medication.
It is suggestive of side effect of Lisinopril. Lisinopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor commonly prescribed in the treatment of high blood pressure and heart failure. Its common side effects include dry cough, angioedema (swollen lips / eyelids / tongue) and hyperkalemia (increased serum potassium).
Based on the history, you seem to have developed Lisinopril induced hyperkalemia. Hyperkalemia can be a serious and potentially life-threatening disorder. Hence, I advise you to consult your treating doctor for an alternate effective but a safer medication to control your high blood pressure or dose reduction of Lisinopril may be required.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
