Hi
I appreciate your concern for your husband.
Yes,
Lisinopril can be taken safely while having congestive
heart failure & diabetes. Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors like Lisinopril is one of the most effective drugs used in the treatment of heart failure.
It helps in decreasing the work load on the heart by dilatation of peripheral blood vessels, by preventing the remodelling (stress induced changes of heart and blood vessels) and by decreasing the sympathetic overactivity.
It also prevents the progression of heart failure.
Regarding its role in diabetes, it prevents the kidney damage that can occur in presence of uncontrolled blood sugar or in patients with controlled blood sugar. It also prevents the loss of protein (
proteinuria) in patients with diabetes.
Regarding the kidney problem it could be due urine infection caused by an
enlarged prostate which needs to investigated for (like urine analysis, urine culture and sensitivity,
ultrasound, ) and treated accordingly.
Hope I could answer your query.
