Can Losartan Potassium And Carvedilol Be Taken Together?

Hello... should I take Losartan potassium and cardevilol together? I am 56 years old and in menopause. I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and heart palpitations. I recently had an echocardiogram and the results indicated a slightly enlarged left atrium.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
There is no significant drug interaction between losartan and carvedilol that can affect effectiveness of either drug. Both drugs can be taken together. Both drugs have beneficial effect on heart and are very effective in controlling BP.
Advice

1.     Continue losartan and carvedilol as suggested
2.     If your total blood cholesterol is high then you can add rosuvastatin 5 mg daily at bed time
3.     Regular exercise at least 30 minutes for 5 days in a week. The best types of exercises for lowering BP are walking, jogging, cycling, swimming or dancing
4.     Eating a diet that is rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products and skimps on saturated fat and cholesterol
5.     Consume less salt
6.     Avoid smoking, alcohol, coffee, spicy food and caffeinated beverages
7.     Lose extra weight if you are overweight and keep your body mass index between 19 and 25. BMI is calculated by formula BMI = Weight in Kilograms / (height in meters x height in meters)
8.     Measure your BP regularly and be in touch with your doctor
9.     Avoid eating high energy foods such as cakes, chocolates, chips etc.
