Can Macrobid Medicine Cause Any Side Effects?

Hi Dr.Rynne, I have been on macrobid for a week ,for a UTI.The medicine made me very weak,upset stomach,chills and headaches.I stuck it out,and just now took the last pill. How can I get this out of my system quickly? I,greatly appreciate your help,thank you so much. Sincerely, Lisa

I understand your concern.
Macrobid contains nitrofurantoin, which is an antibiotic used to treat urinary tract infections.
Some of the symptoms you are experiencing like weakness, stomach upset, chills and headache could be caused due to side effects of the drug.
You need to take symptomatic treatment like antacids and analgesic medications to overcome symptoms like stomach upset and headache.
Drink good quantities of water/fluids so that it will help to flush out metaboised compounds of the drug and give you relief from side effects early.
