I am going to India where malaria could be a problem. I ahev developped an unknown cause of skin allergy 2 years ago. I have reacted to antibiotics called Metronidazole and Amoxycillin. Is it safe for me to take malarone or doxycycline for malaria? Thank you
Hello, Thanks for using Healthcaremagic. i had gone through the details have provided. you can take malarone or doxycycline for prophlaxis for malaria without any problems. malarone: you may experience mild gastrointestinal upset, rash and mouth ulcers as side effects but the drug has tab has excellent safety profle and efficacy. this tab has to be started 1 to 2 days prior to exposure and to be continued for 1 week following exposure.
Docycycline: is usually tolerated but you may expericence gastrointestinal upset and less commonly photosensitivity. this tab 100 mg daily has to be started once a day one to two days prior to exposure and to be continued for 4 weeks following exposure.
