Can Meftal P Be Given For A Toddler To Control Typhoid Fever?
My son (3hrs 10months old - weight -15.5 kg) has been diagonized with typhoid yesterday. To control the fever he was given Ibugesic Plus (5 ml). Even the medicine was given at 100 F, the temperature rose to 104.6 within half an hour. After that the fever started reducing slowly and took 3hrs to reduce to 98. Again after 2 hrs fever starts rising. So what can we do to control fever at that point? Antibiotics for typhoid has also been started from yesterday. Can we use Meftal P for such high fever?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
When at least 8 hours have passed, you can use the meftal p. This medicine is in the same family of the ibugesic and you should wait till the levels of the ibugesic are on the decline.
You can also consider using paracetamol/acetaminophen. This also helps with fever as well. Tepid sponging, cool liquids would also help reduce his temperature.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
