Can Meloxicam Be Taken For Arthritis While Suffering From A Heart Disease?
my husband has heart disease & high blood pressure he also has a swollen knee & arthritis in his knee he went to his dr office and they took xray and gave him meloxicam tabelets when I picked up his prescription I saw that it was black box warning from the FDA are all inflammorty drugs all black box warning from FDA
Hi & Welcome. Incomplete data like age, details of the medication prescribed for heart disease and high BP ??? It is not safe to take Meloxicam while taking medications for high BP and heart disease. Meloxicam is a non steroidal anti inflammatory drug (NSAID). It can decrease the BP lowering effects of anti-hypertensive drugs. So, it is necessary to monitor the BP regularly. It can increase the effects of 'blood thinners' prescribed in the treatment of heart disease. So, there is a high risk of bleeding hence monitoring for any unusual bleeding is also essential. So, in view of the above NSAIDs like Meloxicam has to be used for short term relief of acute pain. But if your husband is taking for long term (1 week), then the above things has to be considered more seriously and more vigorous monitoring is required.
Hope I could answer your query. Best regards.
