Can Mepivacaine Be Taken In Place Of Lidocaine?

Dear Dr.,
I had a serious reaction to lidocaine and wondered if mepivacaine would be better for dental work?
Symptoms: extremely low blood pressure, dizziness, swelling of face, numbness of face, eyes and top of head for weeks!,liver overcharge, drowsiness, ringing in ears and loss of strength.
I am very thin with kidney trouble and 73 yrs old.
Thank you so much for any information or a source of information.
I don't know how to have dental work done now.
Thanks a lot.
Blessings,
Margot

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain if you have an allergic reaction to Lidocaine that is commonly used local anaesthetic agent for dental work but in case if you have allergic reaction to it, the other commonly used local anaesthetic is Bupivacaine..
Mepivacaine can also be used for the same..

But I would suggest you to first consult an Allergist and get evaluated and an allergic test can be done to rule out the compatible local anaesthetics and the same should be used for dental treatment..

As of now you can take medications from your dentist to relieve your symptoms related to dental problems..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
