Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Metformin And Omeprazole Cause Excessive Production Of Saliva?
I currently use metformin twice a day since 1983 to control my type II diabetes. I most recently started to use emeprazole (nexim) 40 mg 2 years ago. I have since exprerienced excessive saliva which is causing me a lot of embarrassment. Are there any alternative drugs I can use so as to stop the saliva .
The given drugs are not known to cause excessive production of saliva. I would suggest glycopyrrolate and scopolamine for the symptomatic relief of excess of salivary secretions. However you should consult your doctor to find out the underlying cause like inflammation of the oral cavity, dental caries, infection, any orthodontic problems or Parkinson's disease that could be responsible for increased salivary secretion.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
