Can Metoprolol Tartrate Be Taken Along With Gabapentin And Oxycontin?
I was just prescribed Diltiazem for high bp. I am currently on Metpprolol Tartrate 100mg. twice a day. I also take 5mg oxcycontin for neuropathy 3 times a day and sometimes gabapenton with it. I am concerned about the mix here. My bp is always high and was 155 over 105 last evening even with 200 mg Metoprolol on board. Thoughts?
While there is no major interaction of metoprolol with Gabapentin or and Oxycontin. But in fact, we do not recommend using Diltiazem with metoprolol.
These both are used for hypertension but because both of them (Diltiazem and Metoprolol) slow the heart rate so we do not use them at the same time as this may cause too much slowing of the heart causing heart blocks.
So you should not take both at same time and inform your doctor. We can add another drug if BP is not controlled.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman, General & Family Physician
