Can Metronidazole Be Taken After Consuming Wine?

I drank alcohol lastnight, like a bottle of wine and a wine cooler, will I get sick if I take metronidazole now? I get frequent vaginal bacterial infections, so a urologist prescribed me this medicine to keep on hand and told me to take 4 at once and that is all I need to do when I notice symptoms. Is that true? But now I am JUST getting over my period, and I have a nasty odor that I never had before, almost smells like stool and a skunk at the same time. I JUST took a shower, and STILL smell it when I wipe with tissue down there. Is that a bacterial infection?

Hi,

Metronidazole should not be taken after consuming alcohol. Avoid taking metronidazole for at least 3 days after you stop consuming alcohol.

Otherwise it may cause serious a severe adverse reaction ('Disulfiram-like reaction') resulting in throbbing headaches, increased heartbeats, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling), and syncope.

In its severe form, it may also cause respiratory depression, cardiovascular collapse, arrhythmias, convulsions, and death.

Based on the history you seem to have developed recurrent vaginal infection. Make sure that your sex partner also gets treated too, and wait to have sex again until all of your symptoms go away (about a week). Get checked again if your symptoms come back.

Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
