Can Microgynon 30 And Sertreline Be Taken Together?

Hi, I have been on Microgynon 30 for around 6 months now and have just been prescribed Sertreline for anxiety and was wondering if they will have any interaction? I only take the pill for painful periods so it doesn't matter if it decreases the effectiveness for contraception

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Microgynon 30 is an oral contraceptive agent. Sertraline is a SSRI drug. Sertraline is a safe anti anxiety and antidepressant drug. The drug has minimal drug interactions with other drugs. I could't find any detailed studies for use of Microgynon with Sertraline, but in practice I have prescribed this drug to my patients without any adverse effects on OCPs effectiveness. Use of TCA antidepressants is associated with reduction of effectiveness of OCPs but Sertraline is a different drug. In my opinion no risk is associated, still before starting the dose consult your doctor.
