Can Mirapex Cause Weight Gain And Swelling Of Hands?
I suffer from RLS. I started taking Mirapex at the beginning of December and it helped my RLS however I have gained about 8lbs. I am dieting and exercising. I maintained my weight at 138 to 143 for over 6 years. I currently weigh 151lbs. I also have swollen hands. I am interested if you know anything about Sinimet? I have read it helps RLS and most dont gain weight on it.
Mirapex contains pramipexole which is used for restless leg syndrome. Swelling of hands and feet are common side effects of Mirapex. This swelling is due to retention of water causing peripheral edema. This water retention is causing weight gain. These side effects are reversible on stopping Mirapex. Sinemet is a combination of carbidopa and levodopa mainly used for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Sinimet has not been approved by US FDA for restless leg syndrome. Although it is thought to be effective is RLS also. Pramipexole is the first line therapy of RLS. Advice 1. Continue Mirapex as suggested 2. Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg daily per oral for 10 days 3. If any worsening in your condition occurs then consult your doctor immediately. Thanks
