Can Mirena Be Handy To Control A Heavy Flow In Periods?

I am 42 yr old f - and have never been pregnant- I have a blood clotting disease (Antiphospolipid Antibody syndrome) and I am on blood thinner (Xarelto 20mg/day) due to a stroke i had in November. I was diagnosed w Lupus at that time- my periods are heavy and run between 7-10 days. I started a progesterone pill last month but it is not controlling the bleeding.
my dr recommended I use Mirena, but I am concerned that it will not actually stop my periods as they are so heavy. Is there another alternative?
