Can mirena birth control cause a kidney infection? My significant other and I had intercourse tonight and I had a lot of bleeding afterwards(blood clots includes) I have had the mirena since May of this year and haven t had a period since. But I now have a kidney infection along with cysts on my ovaries. I m curious is they run together?
Hi! I would say with confidence that the birth control system called Mirena might be indirectly responsible for the bleeding that you had due to hormonal influence on the vaginal mucosa. However, there is no way that Mirena can be directly linked to ovarian cysts and kidney infections. The answer is no. However, you might want to take your health seriously and take prompt treatment for these conditions. Regards, Dr. Neel Kudchadkar
