Can Neurontin Help Prevent A Seizure While Discontinuing Klonopin Cold Turkey?
Hi, i was wondering if neurontin can help prevent a seizure when coming off of klonopin 2mg/day cold turkey. My doctor took me off the klonopin without tapering me. i have been taking it for about 4 years now and just moved to a new area and my new doctor wrote me 1 month worth and will not even taper me off. today is my 7th day without the klonopin and my symptoms are getting worse each day it seems.
In my opinion, as Klonopin has an addictive tendency, so any drug having addictive potential, should be withdrawn gradually in a tapering down fashion to avoid / minimize the unwanted withdrawal symptoms.
Any way, Neurontin has almost nil potential for addiction, therefore your doctor might have chosen it to replace Klonopin. Neurontin is also used to control seizures besides relieving nerve pains. In your situation, if the symptoms of withdrawal from Klonopin are really bad, then you should consult your doctor and treatment done accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
