Can Norvasc Be Taken For Hypertension While Having Chronic Anxiety Attacks?

I have chronic anxiety attacks and have been recently prescribed Norvasc for hypertension. I read that there are significant psychiatric side effects: anxiety, severe depression and even suicide attempts. Is this true? With a history of anxiety attacks, would this drug more likely give me these side effects? I am very concerned. thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the Norvasc contains Amlodipine which is calcium channel blocker used widely as anti-hypertensive medicine with excellent results. There are various side effects concerned with use of Norvasc as:
- Fluid and water retention over long period consumption
- Abdomen pain
- Nausea
- Dizziness

However, there is no documented danger of its consumption with chronic anxiety attacks.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
