Can Novocaine Drug Injected In The Jaw Cause Pain Around It?
I recently went to the dentist to get a filling in my upper back tooth. Now, I have pain shooting from my ear to around my jaw and my gums are very sensitive. Could the novacaine that he numbed my jaw with have went into my ear canal causing an ear infection?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain pain in ear and around the jaw along with sensitive gums when you were given a Novocaine shot does not seems to be due to the injection but seems to be probably due to pain originating from the tooth that is filled as there might be inflamed nerves due to deep placement of filling directly over the nerves and also there is a possibility that due to weaning off the anaesthesia there is pain evident.. I would suggest you to consult your treating dentist and get evaluated and he can do an x ray to rule out that what is the exact condition of the tooth that is leading to pain and discomfort and if there are inflamed nerves the filling can be removed and tooth can be treated with root canal treatment.. As of now you can take higher painkillers like Tramadol or Ketorolac and also do cool compresses over the cheek..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
