Can OPV And DPT Immunizations Cause Red Spots On An Infant's Body?
hi. my 6 month old son got OPV and DPT immunizations yesterday and has suddenly got some red spots on his neck, upper chest and upper back and a little on his face. He also seems a little uncomfortable and has been crying more than usual today. We thought he might be developing measles, but he's not got a fever. He's not scratching the spots, so I don't think they're itchy.
Hi.. following DPT vaccination excessive crying, irritability, fever and rash are common. usually it takes 2days to subside. you can use paracetamol 15mg/kg/dose 8th hourly to controle pain and fever. unless child is active and feeding well nothing much to worry.
Regarding measles- measles is usually associated with cough, cold and conjunctivitis. there should be contact with measles patient. in your child there are no above mentioned symptoms. please upload the photos of rash, so that i can tell u what exactly the rashes are. regards-Dr.surendra
Hi...it is unlikely to be due to the vaccination. But I suggest you to go back to the health care facility where you have got those vaccines administered. I am suggesting this because, if some other parents whose kids have been given this vaccine also have approached them with similar complaints, then the batch of the vaccines should be discarded and investigated further. But coming to your kid, as the kid is active otherwise, you need not worry. Regards - Dr. Sumanth
