Can Omeprazole, Zantac, Levothyroxine And Simvastatine Reduce The Hemoglobin Count In The Blood?

I was diagnosed with Barrets 3 years ago, I ve been taking omeprazole and recently started to take zantac because the symptoms became stronger.I also take 50 mcg of levothyroxine and 5 mg of simvastatine I have some discomfort in my chest and am sensative to chemical smells which bring on shortness of breath. My last blood work showed a drop in hemoglobin count. I am 71 exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet. My regular doctor is out of town and I am anxious about the drop in hemoglobin! Hope you can help

Hi,

To determine the reason for the drop in Hb, you would need to look at other factors in the blood test result. The MCV value gives a lot of information.

If this is low then it may mean that the low Hb is due to a decrease in iron though there are less frequent causes as well.

If it is high then it can be due to liver, kidney or thyroid disease or low vitamin B12 or folate.

If it is normal then it may be related to chronic illnesses.
